Who Are We?

We are a group of parents, teachers and staff members of students at the Spectrum Academy North Salt Lake Intermediate School. Our PTO was created at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. This means that we are still in the early stages of developing our organization.

We ARE:

  • Devoted to helping to improve the school experience for teachers and students at Spectrum Academy's Intermediate (grades 3-8) school.
  • Partners with the school in meeting student needs. We organize events, collect donations, coordinate volunteers, etc. Because of this partnership, volunteer time and donations can count toward your mandatory volunteer hours.
  • Committed to safety. Any volunteers working with students in the school MUST pass a Spectrum Academy background check.
  • A membership based organization. Although our activities, meetings and volunteer opportunities are open to the general school population, in order to participate in voting or to serve on the board, you must join the PTO and pay dues of $5.00.
  • An independent entity. Although we partner with Spectrum Academy and follow all of their rules and guidelines, we elect our own board and manage our own finances.

We are NOT:

  • An organization serving the Pleasant Grove campus or the NSL elementary or high school campuses. Though we have liason programs, each campus will create and run it's own parent organization.
  • A PTA. We have no affiliation with the Parent Teacher Association.
  • A 501(c)3 non-profit. Donations to our organization are therefore not tax-deductible. The process of becoming a non-profit charity is complicated and we have not been existence long enough yet to establish this status.
